What Types of Information Does
MasterFILE Premier Contain?
- Articles in business, consumer health, general
science, and multicultural periodicals, the majority
of which are full text.
- Book reviews.
- Facts and information from almanacs and other
reference books (nearly 500 full text reference
books).
- Definitions from the American Heritage Dictionary.
- Full-text biographies (over 84,000).
- Images including maps and flags.
- Primary source documents.
Searching MasterFILE Premier
Using the Basic Search
The basic search looks for your
search terms in the author, article title, subject,
and abstract fields.

Type your search terms in the find
box and click Search. The results of your search
will be displayed in the Results box located below
the Search field.

Too Many Results? Too Few Results?
If your search results in too many
or too few results, click the Refine Search tab.

To limit your results, use the
following fields:

to only those resources available in full

to peer reviewed or scholarly articles or

the exact name of a magazine or other publication

Search
for articles with more than, equal to, or
less than the number of pages you specify. |

Search
for articles with images in full text (Text
with Graphic)
or images as part of a PDF (PDF). |
To get more results, you can expand
your search by choosing to:
- Search for related words such as synonyms or
plurals.
- Search within the full text of the articles
instead of only the author, article title, subject,
and abstract fields.
- Search for your keywords as independent terms
instead of a phrase (Automatically ÒAndÓ search
terms).
Using Advanced Search
The Advanced Search feature offers
additional search options to help you focus your
search. For example, if you are looking for information
on charter schools in Texas you would use the Advanced
Search.

You can search within the following
fields in the database:
- All Text
- Author
- Title
- Subject Terms
- Geographic Terms
- Abstract
- Journal Name
Too Many Results? Too Few Results?
The Refine Search tab for the Advanced
Search has several additional options for limiting
your search results.

The additional fields are:

the search to a specific type of publication
such as newspapers, government documents,

To select multiple values from
a list, press the Ctrl key (or Command key) and
click the left mouse button.
Finding Definitions
To find definitions using MasterFILE
Premier, you must first click the Dictionary button
located in the green bar near the top of the page.

You can then search the dictionary
by typing in part of the word or the entire word
in the Browse for box and clicking Browse.
